The employment of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors as well as of antagonists of angiotensin II-AT1 receptor demonstrates benefits in the function and cardiovascular structure and in the organ-renal protection, independently of their derived effects of diminishing the blood pressure. Nevertheless, the therapeutic successful response, though effective, it is limited. The high specificity of the renin for his substrate angiotensinogen, the identification and clonation of the prorenin-renin receptors and the proximately market of the new renin blockers contribute a new vision of the RAS.

El empleo de inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de angiotensina así como de antagonistas de los receptores AT1 de la Ang II, demuestra beneficios en la función y estructura cardiovascular y en la protección orgánica (renal), independientemente de sus efectos derivados de disminuir la PA. Sin embargo, la respuesta terapéutica lograda, aunque eficaz, es limitada. La elevada especificidad de la renina por su sustrato el angiotensinogeno, la identificación y clonación de receptores de la renina-prorenina y los nuevos bloqueadores de la renina aportan una nueva visión del sistema renina angiotensina.
