Nefrología is the official publication of the Spanish Society of Nephrology. The Journal publishes articles on basic or clinical research relating to nephrology, arterial hypertension, dialysis and kidney transplants. It is governed by the peer review system and all original papers are subject to internal assessment and external reviews. The journal accepts submissions of articles in English and in Spanish languages. Nefrología follows the publication requirements of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Nefrología is a Diamond Open Access journal: it charges no article processing charges (APCs) to authors and no access fees to readers. It is open to authors of any affiliation, country or status. Publishing costs are fully covered by the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN).
Nefrología is owned by the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN), a not-for-profit scientific society. Elsevier provides editorial and production services only; content and editorial decisions rest with the SEN and the journal's Editorial Board.

As of July 6, 2026, all new manuscripts submitted to Nefrología must be written in English.
